Design-Debbie Secan
Debbie Secan started her undergraduate degree at The Rhode Island School of Design, and then moved to Israel and finished her B.S. in Textile Design at Shenkar College of Fashion and Textile Technology in Ramat Gan. She lived in Israel for 7 years designing fabrics for an Israeli mill called Ramtex, LTD. Upon moving back to the US, she continued her textile design career at Richloom Fabrics in NYC. Debbie recently completed her Master’s of Art & Design degree from North Carolina State University where her work focused on the design of Jewish textiles.
FabriChai-History and Philosophy
Debbie wanted her own tallit but could not bring herself to purchase one. As a textile designer she felt that she should design her own. This turned into the thesis project for her Masters in Art and Design and has continued to develop into a small, family business.
Debbie designs from the place in her mind where Jewish texts and values inspire visual imagery. She is inspired by folkloric textiles and illustrations from both Jewish and non-Jewish traditions.
We weave all of our Jacquard fabric in mills in North Carolina.
